Late Summer Refresher

Pop-up spray parks a cool way to beat the heat in N.B.

Aug 30, 2023 | 12:44 PM

With highs between 29 and 31ºC expected this week, the City of North Battleford and North Battleford Fire Department are helping residents keep cool, with a pair of pop-up spray parks happening today (Aug. 30) and Friday (Sept. 1) in the community.

Today’s will be held from 1-4 p.m. at Riverview Park, while Friday’s will be from 1-4 p.m. at Fairview Park.

Public relations coordinator with the city, Candace Toma said it’s just another way to connect with the community while offering a bit of a reprieve from the heat.

“We try to do this every year, as hosted by the North Battleford Fire Department,” she said. “It’s free, and we try to target some areas that may not be in close proximity to one of our typical spray parks that are in operation through the summer with our Parks and Rec Department.

“It’s just an added opportunity to do some community engagement with the Fire Department, to get out there, and use that nice laddered truck we have in our fleet to provide an opportunity for all – the young and the young at heart – to beat the heat.”

Free for all to attend, the city does stress that all kids who come out to take part must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Sunscreen is also recommended with any extended time spent out under the sun.

Riverview Park is located at 99th Street and Seventh Avenue. Fairview Park is located at 202 Clements Drive.
