Council Meeting

North Battleford council set to discuss new snowmobile trail, installing lights on Water Tower

Aug 21, 2023 | 10:34 AM

North Battleford’s city council plans to discuss creating a new snowmobile trail in the area during tonight’s meeting.

The request is coming from Battlefords Trail Breakers Snowmobile Club which operates and maintains around 480 km of groomed trails in the area.

The group was awarded the 2023-2024 Provincial Snowmobile Festival, taking place from Feb. 23-25, 2024, so they came up with the idea of creating a new path into the city that would better accommodate event riders.

The club claims this would be a safe route to different accommodations such as hotels, gas stations, and restaurants, while also having the space to offer designated unloading and parking zones.

Also up for discussion is which company should be given the contract to install new LED lights on the Water Tower.

The city received two offers, one from Fedler Electric for nearly $179,000 and one from Xtremeaxis Inc. for over $120,000.

Felder Electric say they would start exactly one week after receipt of the contract and would finish up around Oct. 20, 2023. Xtremaxis Inc. proposed a Sept. 4, 2023, start date with plans on finishing by Sept. 15, 2023.

The city’s tender requested a completion date of Sept. 30, 2023.

Meanwhile, council will also discuss setting up an Arena Usage Policy, who should provide natural gas services to the city, and more.

Monday’s meeting gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
