Aquadeo Days Party in the Park celebrates best of community

Aug 4, 2023 | 5:56 PM

The aroma of burgers, the swing of live music, and the spectacle of a night sky filled with fireworks. The 5th Annual Aquadeo Days Party in the Park will have it all this Saturday at the Resort Village of Aquadeo.

Aquadeo Days is an event started in memory of Lloyd Pirot, celebrating the best of community, with the aforementioned food, music and fireworks, as well as beach volleyball, vendor craft tables, and more, with proceeds from the weekend being donated to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

It’s an event the small resort village has seen continue to grow rapidly over its first few years, due to its affordability (tickets cost just $2) and range of activities and entertainment that regularly draw people in from surrounding communities such as Edam, Cochin, Meota, and North Battleford, among others.

“400 people came through last year, so we’re expecting that-plus this year,” Pat Delainey Jr., with the Aquadeo Community Recreation Association (ACRA) said. “It just seems to get bigger and bigger each year, and so far to date we’ve raised $34,000.”

Saturday’s event will begin at 11 a.m., with between 12 and 15 local acts slated to perform throughout the day, between single entertainers and bands.

From 9-10 p.m., the fireworks display will take place to cap the evening, a tradition first started by Vincent Turchak, and now continued in his memory.

From the food tent (manned by volunteers from the ACRA) to the food, the fireworks, the door prizes, the bands, and even the land itself where the Party in the Park is held, virtually every part of the yearly celebration is donated to remember those such as Pirot and Turchak who contributed in countless ways to making the Aquadeo community all it can be.

The result is something Delainey Jr. called truly special.

“It’s kind of a full day of memories and celebration of how these people loved music and the fireworks,” he said, before a brief pause. “It’s a celebration of the community.”

Sunday morning there will also be a Bike Parade put on by the Aquadeo Fire Department to close out the festivities, open for kids of all ages to enter with supplies donated as well for those who wish to decorate their ride.

The Resort Village of Aquadeo is just 30 minutes North of the Battlefords on Highway 4. The Aquadeo Days celebration takes place in the Village, just west of the clubhouse at the tennis courts.
