Cockrill acclaimed at Sask Party nomination meeting

Jul 21, 2023 | 5:00 PM

Jeremy Cockrill is officially acclaimed as the Saskatchewan Party candidate for the Battlefords.

The Battlefords Saskatchewan Party Constituency Association made the announcement at the nomination meeting Thursday in North Battleford.

Patrick Bundrock, Saskatchewan Party Executive Director, noted it’s a testament to Cockrill’s work that no one else from the public attended the nomination meeting other than the executive team.

“It’s come to me to be very obvious, that if you’re sitting here with [just] your core team, what a good job you are doing as an MLA,” he said. “Because, if you were not doing a good job this room would be filled, and there would be another candidate. So, congratulations to you and your team, Jeremy.”

Cockrill will be running as the local Sask Party candidate in the 2024 provincial election.

“Being acclaimed is a little less dramatic than a contested nomination, which we had three years ago for this, but I’m certainly appreciative of the constituency association and our party members here for having their trust in me to carry our flag again into the 2024 elections,” he said. “As we think ahead to 2024, it’s another opportunity for the people of the Battlefords and the people of Saskatchewan to choose what kind of province we want to live in.”

Cockrill said his team will soon start to think about how they will prepare locally for the next election.

Cockrill first won the Battlefords Sask. Party nomination in February 2020.

He then went on to win the election in October of that year, becoming the new MLA for the Battlefords, following former MLA Herb Cox’s retirement.

Cockrill currently serves as the Minister of Highways and the minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency.
