North Battleford BID’s Live at Lunch brings downtown to life

Jul 20, 2023 | 9:27 AM

The music was flowing with the aroma of fresh burgers on the grill at the North Battleford Downtown BID’s second Live at Lunch concert of the summer at Library Park on Wednesday.

The event featured a special musical performance from local artists Bruin Eberle and Jardeth Hemmerling, along with a barbeque with cheeseburgers, hotdogs, pop, and water available for purchase.

Executive director of the Downtown BID (Business Improvement District), Kori Humenny said it was great to see so many come out for the event to enjoy the music and grab some lunch.

“That’s what this is all about,” she said with a smile, pausing to take it all in. “Just bringing more people downtown and enjoying what we have in our community, so this just means the world to me to see so many people out.”

Eberle who grew up on the north end of the city, and remains in North Battleford to this day, said having performed Live at Lunch before just a few years ago, it was an easy decision to get involved with the event once again when approached about the opportunity.

“I’d played this Live at Lunch once before in the past, so when Kori asked if I’d like to play I jumped on board right away and it was a no-brainer to come out,” he said.

“The weather was beautiful, and it’s really nice when people can come together, especially during the week for an event like this. It doesn’t always have to be a Friday or Saturday night, an hour of music in the park is great for everybody. There were lots of adults and kids and just a really good variety of people who came out to enjoy the day.”

Each Live at Lunch event is sponsored by a local business in the community, with Wednesday’s made possible by Hein Financial Group, who brought in the entertainment and the Saskatchewan Hospital Legacy Trail, who organized the barbeque portion and will be the recipient of proceeds raised from the day.

Jardeth Hemmerling, who joined Eberle for the performance, is another of the local talents from the area, having grown up on a farm just south of the Battlefords on the other side of Mosquito First Nation, and today residing in North Battleford.

He said he was just happy to be part of the event for the community aspect as it brings people together.

“Coming out here and seeing a lot of local people coming on their lunch breaks and just enjoying the beautiful sunshine and food, this was a really cool community-building time,” he said.

“I was blown away with how many people came out and people were just in a good mood, hanging out and being together. I think people are excited any chance they get to visit, eat some good food, and listen to some good music.”

Wednesday’s event was the second Live at Lunch performance put on by the North Battleford Downtown BID this summer. The next will feature local artist, Zayda Aug. 14.
