Several rural and First Nation communities in northern Saskatchewan are getting a boost from SaskTel as the company looks to expand its 5G network.

The Crown Corporation announced on Wednesday that it’s expanded the network to more than 50 cell sites in the past few months.

“This year, we will invest approximately $160 million to accelerate the rollout of our 5G network. On the strength of this record-setting investment, we expect to deploy 5G on approximately 260 cell sites across Saskatchewan,” Chief Technology Officer Chad Olson said.

Below is a list of some of the northern communities that are benefitting from the 5G expansion.

– Big River First Nation

– Blaine Lake

– Bruno

– Canwood

– Choiceland

– Emma Lake – Murray Point

– Hafford

– Maidstone

– Pasqua

– Witchekan Lake First Nation

– Wollaston Lake

– Highway 2 (south of La Ronge)

– Highway 11 (northeast of Duck Lake and south of Macdowall)

– Highway 378 (northeast of Rabbit Lake)

The expansion of the 5G and fibre networks is a result of SaskTel’s commitment to invest more than $1.6 billion of capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years.
