Family of missing woman Ashley Morin still hope for answers

Jul 10, 2023 | 5:00 PM

Family and supporters of missing North Battleford woman Ashley Morin took part in a walk in North Battleford Sunday to continue to raise awareness that Morin has still not been found.

Morin, 31, of Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, was last seen on July 10, 2018. One of the locations she was last seen was on the corner of 96 Street and 16 Avenue in North Battleford at about 9:30 p.m. A two-toned panel van, with no rear windows, was seen at the same location around the same time. RCMP said in July 2019, a year after their investigation, they believe Ashley Morin was the victim of a homicide.

“Today marks five years – 1,826 days – since my baby sister was last seen,” Janine Morin, Ashley’s sister, said in her Facebook post. “Imagine the pain my family and I have been through in the past five years. The tears, the gut-wrenching ache in our hearts. I still remember the day we went in to report her missing, the confusion, the inability to understand what I was about to do. I never in my worst nightmare imagined five years later I’d be begging for someone to come forward and help to end this unbearable pain. I can’t count the tears that I have wiped from my mom’s cheek, I can’t even explain how tough it is to hug my mom, my brother and my dad and tell them: ‘We ain’t giving up, we will bring her home.'”

Janine noted she appreciates all those who have been there to offer support to the family since Ashley has been missing.

“Thank you all for the continued love and support and sharing her story all over social media and by word of mouth,” she said. “We would not have the ability to get through some of our toughest battles if we didn’t have you all supporting us. My family and I see you, we hear you and appreciate each and everyone of you.”

The local walk started at the Gold Eagle Casino parking lot and wrapped up at the Discovery Co-op Mall parking lot, at the north end of North Battleford. Several guest speakers shared their thoughts, and made a plea for answers to help find Ashley, during stops on the way.

“We as a family are trying to keep her face and name out there for awareness in the hopes of someone stepping forward with information that leads to us bringing her home,” Mike Bird, one of Ashley Morin’s cousins, said.

The reward is currently set at $25,000 for details that lead to Ashley Morin’s whereabouts.

“Anyone with information, please speak up,” Janine Morin said. “We want to bring her home.”

People with information can call the Battlefords RCMP detachment or report a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
