The Battlefords North Stars announced Tuesday the team has acquired forward Rylan Williams from La Ronge, in exchange for a first round draft pick in 2024 and a Player Development Fee.

Williams, an 18-year-old forward from Kyle, Sask., is no stranger to the Battlefords community. He played 47 games over two seasons with the Battlefords Stars U18 AAA team from 2020-22, registering 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) with the team, prior to finishing out his AAA career just 45 minutes south of his hometown, in Swift Current last season.

A former first round pick of La Ronge, #8 overall in the 2020 SJHL Bantam Draft, Williams registered 35 points (18 goals, 17 assists) in 43 games with the Swift Legionnaires U18 team, to finish fourth in team scoring, and tied for second in goals on a strong Swift club that finished fourth overall in the SMAAAHL standings (25-15-4).

In the playoffs, the already 6-1, 174-pounder added another three points (two goals, one assist) in five games, then followed that up with three points (one goal, two assists) in four games at the Circle K Classic (formerly Mac’s U18 AAA Tournament) in Calgary.

Head coach and general manager with the North Stars, Brayden Klimosko said Williams should be a natural fit in the North Stars’ black and silver.

“Rylan plays a fast and physical style of play which is what we are looking for with the North Stars,” he said. “He will bring some offense with his high IQ and compete.”

SJHL fall camps will officially open Aug. 25, with the Stars’ first exhibition ‘Rookie Game’ scheduled for Sept. 10.
