A DOLLAR HOUSE

Jim Pattison’s former home up for sale for $1, but there’s a catch

On the waterfront in a neighbourhood in West Vancouver stands a charming yellow house and it could be yours for as little as $1.

However, there is a catch: you have to relocate the house from its current dwelling.

That house once belonged to Canadian billionaire Jim Pattison and the rights to relocate the property are up for bid.

The home on Argyle Avenue in West Vancouver was purchased in January of this year from Pattison, the owner of the Jim Pattison Group of companies.

The District of West Vancouver bought the property as it plans to develop the area into the Brissenden Waterfront Park. The District has acquired 31 of 32 properties to make way for the project.

“I am delighted that we are that much closer to the completion of this waterfront park plan, something that has been welcomed and anticipated by the community and residents of West Vancouver for decades,” said Mayor Mark Sager in a media release. “I would also like to express my most sincere gratitude to my friend and long-time resident of West Vancouver, Jim Pattison, for helping to make this a reality.”

According to B.C. Bid, the District is inviting submissions of an Expression of Interest (EOI) for anyone willing to purchase the house for $1 or more.

The catch, however, is that whoever wins the bid must relocate the home as the District wants to preserve it rather than tear it down.

Pattison said that the home belonged to him, his family, and his parents for many years, but he’s happy to pass it along to West Vancouver.

“We are happy to help Mayor Sager and the District of West Vancouver in achieving their goal of creating this new parkland on the oceanfront,” he said in a statement.

The deadline to enquire about the property on B.C. Bid is June 20.
