New Community Planner for Town of Battleford

Jun 7, 2023 | 8:39 AM

The Town of Battleford now has a new Community Planner.

Mayor Ames Leslie noted that Ryan Mackrell, formerly City Planner and Assistant Director of Corporate Services with the City of North Battleford, has moved over to join the Town of Battleford. He started his new position with the Town on June 1.

The Town has not had a planner since former Community Planner Paige Hundt left the position.

“Having the community planner [position] filled will definitely help progress a lot of the building permits and developments, and a lot of the community events that we need to get going,” Mayor Leslie said. “To have Ryan’s experience and knowledge in that seat is only going to help things get caught up that much quicker.”

Coun. Judy Pruden took the opportunity to welcome Mackrell to his position with the town.

“It’s nice to see the desk will have someone sitting at it after about a year,” she added.

Interim CAO continues

The town’s interim CAO, Noreen Hoffart, who stepped in for the past 30 days to serve in the role after Ash Alam left the position due to family matters, will continue in her interim post as needed.

Following council’s meeting, Leslie said that now that the 30-day period has passed since Hoffart was initially installed, she will continue in the interim position for the town, not in a full-time capacity, but just as required and appointed by council.

“She was appointed as the interim CAO as we require or we have a meeting,” Leslie said. “She will fill that need either until Ash is back or council hires a replacement.”
