UPAR work moving ahead in North Battleford

Jun 5, 2023 | 4:24 PM

The City of North Battleford is getting ready for the latest Underground Pipe and Asphalt Replacement (UPAR) work scheduled for 2023, budgeted at about $5.1 million.

“This is a significant investment into the long-term structural wellbeing of our community, to support future growth and to enhance accessibility for residents,” the city said in its report.

The city planned a public meeting for Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the North Battleford Public Library, where administration will answer any questions people may have on the 2023 UPAR projects.

The tentative timeline for this summer’s UPAR work begins this month.

Work is planned at 12th Avenue from June 5 to 30, for the lane behind Innovation Credit Union, near 102 Street, and the Eiling Kramer Building, near 11th Avenue.

Upgrades are planned on 98 Street for the next few months, a major project for the city. The work encompasses about four blocks – from the rail line to the 15th Avenue intersection.

The work involves water main upgrades, sanitary sewer main, water and sanitary sewer services replacement, and storm sewer upgrades. Concrete replacement will be done as required, including curbs, gutters, handicap access, crossings at corners, lane accesses, sidewalk and driveway access on public property, and tree planting and restoring grass in boulevards.

On the 1100 block, from June 19 to 29 underground work will be underway. Then, July 3 to 21, crews will complete concrete work and road base.

On the 1200 block, on July 3, underground work is planned. Then, concrete work and road base will be done from July 24 to Aug. 4.

On the 1300 block, underground work is planned from July 24 to Aug. 4. Then, concrete work and road base is scheduled for Aug. 7 to 18.

On the 1400 block, underground work is planned Aug. 7 to 18, and concrete work and road base is earmarked for Aug. 21 to Sept. 8.

Paving will be done about a week after the concrete work is completed.

While the city is completing infrastructure upgrades, it also hopes to get rid of any remaining lead water lines or service lines connecting the property to the city’s water lines.

For the 98 Street UPAR work, the city is advising residents they can anticipate some inconvenience while the project is underway. The city asks people to keep abreast of its updates.

Due to the scope of the project, the 98th Street work may include a temporary disruption to people’s access to their property. Pedestrian access to sidewalks can also be expected. Residents might also notice temporary cautionary boil-water advisories. As well, the city notes there may be an additional cost to reconnect services for the property.

To keep people up to date, the city plans to host bi-weekly Zoom meetings for information on the UPAR project. People can take in these meetings through the city’s home page at cityofnb.ca and its social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter, that will provide links to the UPAR project website.
