Three people charged after shooting in Beauval

May 29, 2023 | 4:53 PM

Three people have been arrested following a dangerous incident that sent one man to hospital.

On Saturday, Beauval RCMP responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the community. A 20-year-old man was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

After reviewing surveillance footage, police discovered a black Chevrolet Equinox was seen at the home with three people presumably inside.

That vehicle was later spotted that afternoon on Highway 155 near Beauval. Police tried to stop the vehicle but were unsuccessful. During the pursuit, the occupants of the Equinox threw a large duffle bag from the window.

Police eventually stopped the SUV after deploying a spike belt on the east side of Highway 903. The three people inside fled while police confiscated the duffle bag which contained two firearms.

The following morning, RCMP from multiple detachments including Buffalo Narrows and Dillon and Saskatoon Police Service Air 1, found the three suspects in the bush and arrested them.

Clayton Ahenakew, 26, from Île-à-la-Crosse; Jaylena Lafleaur, 26, from Meadow Lake and Prosper Gardiner, 27, from Île-à-la-Crosse face a number of charges including attempted murder and possessing a firearm without a license.

All three were scheduled to appear in court on Monday in Meadow Lake.
