RCMP Musical Ride Tour making stop in James Smith

May 19, 2023 | 5:00 PM

The RCMP’s famous musical ride tour is set to make its way to the James Smith Cree Nation this summer.

Every year, police officers and their horses travel the country and put on shows highlighting different riding skills, formations, and drills. They normally only visit a couple of provinces each year, however, they’re traveling to nine provinces in recognition of the RCMP’s 150th anniversary.

This year, they’ve decided to make a stop in the First Nation after the mass stabbing attack that shocked the country last year. Eleven people lost their lives, including the perpetrator’s brother, while another 18 were injured.

RCMP ended up conducting a massive manhunt, eventually catching the man behind the attack three days later. He ended up dying in police custody shortly after being caught.

The tour will officially be in James Smith on Jul. 18. The only other spots in the province they plan on performing in are Saskatoon, Regina, and Strasbourg.

The show will be free for everyone to attend.

The next time the tour will be in Saskatchewan won’t be until 2027.
