The City of North Battleford is advising residents that upgrades to the Sobeys-Discovery Co-op Mall intersection are getting closer to being finished.

New traffic lights installed on Territorial Drive at the intersection to improve traffic flow and safety began operating last week.

The work is part of the large-scale Territorial Drive Expansion Project that started in September of 2022. The project also included making changes to lane layouts, curbing, paving, and improving accessibility at the Territorial Drive and 100 Street/Highway 4-N intersection. The project experienced some delays due to contractor unavailability and supply-chain issues related to the new traffic lights.

Traffic-lane marking, the last part of the work, is expected to be completed by this summer.

The city said the Territorial Drive Expansion Project remains on budget, as outlined in the 2022 fiscal year report. It is funded through a provincial grant for 85 per cent of the cost or $680,000. The remaining $120,000 is being covered through the city’s capital reserves.
