City plans variety of spring and summer festivities this year

The City of North Battleford is launching into the new season with a roster of fun plans ahead for Canada Day, and other events in the community.

Parks and Recreation Director Cheryl DeNeire discussed the new plans for the year.

“After discussions with managers and staff, we have chosen Canada Day festivities because in the community there is always the question: Why we don’t do anything but fireworks on Canada Day,” she said.

As a result, the city decided to offer a day full of activities for families to enjoy on the national holiday this year.

“We have lots of interest from partnerships…,” DeNeire said. “That will be a day with fireworks, activities, and a pancake breakfast-brunch. We’re excited. With our partners we are working with, we’ll be able to come up with a nice line-up [of events] for the day.”

She said many people attend fireworks in the evening, so the city is looking forward to having the opportunity to also offer a day full of events for the community.

For New Year’s Eve this year, the city also plans to have a full day of activities, as well as fireworks in the evening.

“The fireworks are done by 7 p.m. because of the timing of the year, and people can go out afterwards,” DeNeire said. “So, we are going to be working on planning a full day of fun [for] New Year’s Eve.”

As well, the city will bring back its community barbeques this year, to help bring the community together.

“That’s going to be working in partnership with Protective Services and other community partners,” DeNeire said. “We’ll have more to tell coming up shortly.”

She said the city hopes to have at least two community barbecues this year.

DeNeire also reminded everyone that April 21 is the city’s Spring Clean Up day, to encourage people to take part.
