It was a night of introductions at North Battleford city council’s meeting on Monday.

Fire Chief and Director of Protective Services Lindsay Holm invited all the Community Safety Officers (CSOs) and a new North Battleford Fire Dept. firefighter to meet council.

Jerry Koliniak was introduced as the new CSO Unit Commander, who started with his new leadership position in 2022.

“[He] has brought forward a number of great initiatives that have helped the CSO program advance,” Holm said.

CSO Barry Adams, who is retiring, was also honoured for his long service.

Holm said Adams started with the city as a bylaw enforcement officer in September of 2011, moved to a special constable position, and then became a CSO when the program started.

“He put in some very dedicated service to this community,” Holm said. “He does his job every day with great diligence. He is one of the most reliable officers I think the city has had. He has done an exemplary job for the city.”

Holm also introduced Lyndsey Livingston as the first Indigenous CSO for the City of North Battleford.

“I’m very proud of her,” he said. “She is going through her training and just received her appointment through the province. I’m looking forward to her doing a fine job for our community.”

Holm added that Misty Hulit is the first female Indigenous firefighter with the North Battleford fire department.

Coun. Bill Ironstand mentioned Livingston and Hulit are both from the local area.

“It’s very encouraging to see that,” he said.

Ironstand was also proud to honour its Indigenous heritage.

“You are role models for the next generation,” he said. “I’m emotional thinking about it. I’m so proud to see this day in our city.”

Mayor David Gillan said to the CSOs that “the job is never easy” for people in the enforcement business and commended them for their service.

“I hope you will stay in our community for a very long time,” he said. “We have a great community, and we need great people.”
