North Stars to meet Mustangs in SJHL semi-finals
Coming off a five-game best-of-seven series victory (4-1) over the Weyburn Red Wings that wrapped up over the weekend, the Battlefords North Stars now have their opponent for the semi-finals of the SJHL playoffs.
Initially awaiting the outcome of Tuesday night’s Game 7 between the Flin Flon Bombers and Estevan Bruins to see if it would be Estevan or Melfort the Stars would play in the second round, a 2-1 Bombers’ victory in OT took the series in their favour. That solidified the final four of the league playoffs as the top four teams from the end of the regular season:
The #1 Battlefords North Stars will play the #4 Melfort Mustangs, while the #2 Humboldt Broncos face the #3 Flin Flon Bombers.
Melfort is coming off a six-game victory (4-2 series win) over the La Ronge Ice Wolves to punch their ticket to the semis, reigniting one of the premier matchups in the league this season. Three of the five games between the North Stars and Mustangs were decided in overtime/via the shootout (BAT taking the season series 4-0-0-1).
