With a magical twist

Skate Battlefords to present annual Skater Showcase this weekend

Mar 24, 2023 | 5:10 PM

From the Lion King, to 101 Dalmatians, to Princess themes, Skate Battlefords will be channeling the magic of the Mickey ears this weekend, with a special Disney theme for their annual year-end Showcase.

Taking place Sunday at 2 p.m. at North Battleford’s Access Communications Centre, tickets will be available for purchase for $10 at the door.

Over 70 skaters will be participating in this year’s showcase, featuring the seven CanSkate groups at the beginner level, followed by the primary level, then junior, intermediate, and senior. Altogether, 11 total groups will perform between the various ages.

Board member with Skate Battlefords and CanSkate representative Amanda Kerton gave an idea of what the performance will entail.

“Our CanSkaters participate and each do a number, then same with the more senior skaters, with a couple of group numbers [interspersed throughout] as well,” she said.

“The theme this year is 100 years of Disney, so each of the groups has a different Disney song they’re performing to: One is doing 101 Dalmatians so they’re all dressed up as little puppies, another is doing the Lion King, [and so-on].”

In addition to the skating performances, there will also be a raffle and 50/50. Admission for children 12 and under is free.
