Cater Lake Wildlife Federation banquet to feature ‘That Hunting Girl’

Mar 22, 2023 | 2:38 PM

Cater Lake Wildlife Federation is looking forward to have well known outdoors woman, Amanda Lynn Mayhew, of the show That Hunting Girl, as a special guest speaker at its upcoming awards night banquet.

The event will take place April 15 at Medstead community hall, with dinner starting at 6:30 p.m., and the program to follow.

Al Roske, a board director with the federation, told battlefordsNOW it was a great coup for the organization to be able to bring Mayhew here to speak at the event.

“We are very excited about having her come,” he said. “We’ve never had a guest speaker of this quality come and talk about what she does.”

Mayhew travels across North America giving presentations on hunting and outdoor sports.

“For our little organization in our small town to have Amanda come in, we’re very privileged to have her,” Roske said.

Cater Lake Wildlife Federation is under the umbrella of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. The Cater Lake group has over 250 members, and serves the Medstead, Glaslyn and surrounding area.

The banquet event will also include a couple auction fundraisers. Proceeds from the event will support the Cater Lake Wildlife Federation. The organization will also donate funds to benefit youth hunting and awareness.

The federation hopes to encourage more younger people to take part in its activities.

Tickets to attend the awards banquet are available through the board of directors, at $25 per person, or $15 for youth, and pre-schoolers free.

“It will sell out. I can guarantee it,” Roske said.

Guest speaker, Mayhew, is an outdoor (sport) TV host of the show That Hunting Girl aired on the Sportsman Channel Canada. She is also an ambassador for hunting, fishing and safe use of firearms. Mayhew is also the founder/owner of Just Hunt Inc.

She also has her own line of apparel.

From Northern Ontario, Mayhew told battlefordsNOW she plans to talk about how more women are enjoying outdoor sports, during her presentation at the Medstead event.

She is also known for her program, called Take Me Hunting where she introduces women to outdoor sports.

“Within that program, they learn everything they can in order to forward their hunting or adventures in the outdoors, and teach others how to do it as well,” Mayhew said. “I’ll be talking about my position in the outdoors, and what I’ve done to get others interested [in taking part in outdoor sports, like hunting or fishing].”

She also offers Range Day events that focus on firearms safety. Mayhew said more women are becoming interested in hunting and fishing, so she wants to help them learn about the sport.

“More women are becoming interested because we have role models who are women,” Mayhew said. “They are inspiring the youth and women who have always wanted to do it, but never really had a step to get out there and do it.”

She has been involved in the sport most of her life.

Mayhew keeps busy these days taking part in hunting excursions, filming TV shows, and promoting her work.

The adventure seeker was also recently in Northern Ontario leading a group of enthusiasts taking her program, called Take me Ice Fishing and, before that, Mayhew was in Florida, fishing and alligator hunting.
