North Stars Allan recognized as SJHL Rookie of the Week

Mar 17, 2023 | 9:00 AM

Battlefords North Stars forward Jackson Allan has been recognized for his standout play down the stretch of the regular season as the SJHL Rookie of the Week.

Allan scored five points (all assists) in the Stars’ home-and-home with Kindersley to cap the regular season last weekend.

Allan picked up a trio of assists in Friday’s 10-1 win in Kindersley, before adding another pair in the Stars’ 8-0 season finale victory on home ice.

The weekend showing is just part of a larger sample size that has seen Allan firing along at a point-per-game clip down the stretch with 10 points (2G, 8A) over his last 10 games. This included scoring the game-winner in Flin Flon in the team’s big 4-2 bounce-back victory over the Bombers to take the final matchup of the year with their rivals.

As Stars’ assistant coach Garry Childerhose said following the win, Allan’s impact goes well beyond his contributions on the stat-sheet.

“Jacks’ is a huge competitor for us; he’s not the biggest guy in the league, but he’s got a huge heart and he plays like one of the big guys in the league,” Childerhose said. “He goes to the dirty areas, he’s first on pucks and winning stick battles, and winning those body-positioning battles.”

A staple for much of the season down the middle of the ice within the North Stars top-nine forward group, Allan finished the season first amongst all Stars’ rookies in scoring with 31 points (nine goals, 31 points) in 48 games.

Head coach Brayden Klimosko called the Rookie of the Week distinction very well deserved.

“He’s had a really good last couple months, and he’s one of our most consistent players day-in and day-out even if he’s not on the scoresheet, so it’s nice to see him get recognized,” Klimosko said of Allan.

“He was a bit banged up earlier in the season, and I think [through] second-half he’s been a lot healthier and he’s seen some good success, which is nice to see as it’s the right time of year to be peaking heading right into the playoffs.”

Allan and his North Stars teammates will return to action this weekend, to open their first-round playoff series with the Weyburn Red Wings.

Games 1 and 2 will be played Friday and Saturday night at the ACC in North Battleford, with both available on the NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast on 1050 CJNB.

The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin both nights at 7 p.m., with puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
