Warrant out for Big River First Nation man after evading police in highway vehicle chase

Update: Brandon Whitefish was located on March 16 and appeared Friday at Prince Albert Provincial Court. He was remanded to Monday.

Big River RCMP are looking for a man who reportedly threatened Big River First Nation residents with a knife and a firearm, and evaded police in a highway vehicle pursuit.

A warrant is out for the arrest of 27-year-old Brandon Whitefish of Big River First Nation after a March 7 altercation. At around 1 a.m., police received a report of an altercation at a residence on the First Nation. After making threats with a knife and firearm, Whitefish fled the scene in a black Chevrolet Equinox with Saskatchewan licence plate 200 LKH. The car was previously reported stolen on Feb. 25.

Police found the Equinox on Highway 793 and attempted to stop the vehicle. Instead, the Equinox fled toward Spiritwood. Despite reaching out to RCMP detachments in the area, the Equinox was not found.

Police have charged Whitefish with nine total offences — two counts of pointing a firearm, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and one count each of possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, being unlawfully in a dwelling, uttering threats, and fail to comply with release order condition.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest and Big River RCMP are actively working to locate him.

Brandon Whitefish is described as approximately 5-9 and 170 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo of a ‘B’ on the side of his face.
