Team Sask adds another medal at Canada Winter Games

Team Saskatchewan got its first medal in the second week of the Canada Winter Games on Wednesday in P.E.I.

Ashton Debruyne won bronze in the 66 kg judo event. The room was sold out and made for a great atmosphere. Team Sask now has 17 medals in the games, three gold, seven silver and seven bronze.

Avery Gibney of Moose Jaw finished in fourth while Pax Nelson of Moose Jaw lost in the semi-final.

The Team Sask female hockey got its first victory of the Winter Games, beating New Brunswick 3-2. Janelle Evans, Brooklyn Nimegeers and Megan Hirschfeld scored for Team Sask in the win. They are now 1-2 and will enjoy a day off Thursday to prepare for the quarter-finals on Friday.

Archer Carl Bothma is currently third in the compound bow event with 556 points, while Tasjia Boyle is in 4th. Both will complete individual quails tomorrow with elimination starting Friday.

Team Sask’s mixed curling team is 2-1 after two days of matches. Dylan Derksen and Melissa Rose Remeshylo lost its first match 6-2 to B.C. before defeating Yukon 6-5.

Krystle Shewchuk finished in fourth place in the female para nordic sit ski on Wednesday. Heidi Wall finished 31st, just falling short of the final and William McGonigle made the final on the men’s side.
