Rotary looks at creating two new splash parks

The Rotary Club of the Battlefords is looking at building two new splash parks- one in North Battleford and another in the town of Battleford.

Rotary club president Randy Patrick and board member Warren Williams made a presentation on the proposal at Living Sky School Division’s (LSSD) recent board meeting.

“We’re asking if it would be possible to put a splash park, [at one end of the playground], at Connaught School [in North Battleford],” Patrick said.

“It’s a bit of an under-served area from the Rotary club’s perspective for activities,” he added. “We believe if we could get something into that area, it would be a pretty nice [splash] park. We think it’s a fantastic location. It will give those kids something to do, especially on those really hot summer days.”

Rotary also want to build a splash park somewhere in the town of Battleford.

Patrick said the total estimated cost of the two projects is about $250,000.

“We haven’t talked to the town or the city about it [yet],” he said. “We’re just saying: We’re interested in doing some projects. We will have to talk to the city and town councils to see if they would be interested in it.”

Rotary would also need to receive approval from LSSD for the project if it goes in at the Connaught School area.

Rotary plans to fundraise for the two initiatives if it gets the go ahead.

“We are estimating it would be about three years for the fundraising. It’s a fairly big project,” Patrick said.

The proposal fits in well with Rotary club’s objectives.

“One of the priorities of Rotary is kids and families,” Patrick said. “We want to have opportunities for younger children to enjoy themselves, and have some activities to do when school is out. We thought that this would be a pretty good one.”
