Stars see six-game winning streak snapped in Flin Flon

The Battlefords North Stars fell 6-0 to the Flin Flon Bombers, Friday night in Flin Flon.

Stars’ goalie Josh Kotai was spectacular throughout the night, keeping his team within a pair through 40 minutes, with a number of excellent stops on Bombers’ chances in front.

Flin Flon was led by a three-point night from Cole Duperreault (1G, 2A), while defenceman Alex Von Sprecken scored a pair in the third on the power play, and Brent Gulenchyn (1G, 2A), Liam Bridger, and Alexi Sylvestere also scored for the team.

A 16-2 shot advantage for the Bombers at the end of the first period, Flin Flon led 2-0 at the first intermission on goals by Gulenchyn and Duperreault.

Bridger’s eighth stretched the Bombers’ league to 3-0 in the second, followed by three unanswered in the third from Sylvestere and Von Sprecken (x2).

Despite the loss, the North Stars have still won six of their last seven games and remain atop the league standings with a 40-4-2-1 record this season. The team will have a chance to respond Saturday night, back at the Whitney Forum in the second game of their back-to-backs against the Bombers this weekend.

Saturday’s game will be available on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7 p.m., with puck drop at 7:30 p.m. on the NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast.
