NDP health critics stop in Battlefords on ‘Solutions Tour’
NDP’s rural and remote health critic Matt Love and health critic Vicki Mowat were in the Battlefords this week as part of their Healthcare Solutions Tour of communities in Saskatchewan.
“Our goal here is to travel around the province, talk to healthcare workers, folks in the community, [and] local leaders and hear about what solutions they have for how to fix our healthcare crisis,” Mowat said. “We are hearing a lot of common themes from folks about issues related to short-staffing, and not being able to get a family doctor or access primary care, whether that’s with a nurse practitioner as well. These are also themes we’ve been hearing about in the Battlefords today.”
During their local stop, they visited Battle River Treaty 6 Health Centre (BRT6HC) in North Battleford and Battlefords District Care Centre (BDCC) in the town of Battleford.
When they visited BRT6HC, Love said, they met with staff and had a short tour to see some of the facilities and services offered. He said they heard a lot of the common themes, similar to other communities, that the provincial government is not listening to local leaders about their communities’ needs— what gaps there are and what is needed to fill them.
