Historic Battleford Lions Club donates to Town

The Historic Battleford Lions Club have made a $1,000 donation to the Town of Battleford.

The Lions Clubs’ Ed Stolar and president Marc Bonneau presented the cheque to Mayor Ames Leslie at the recent meeting. The funds will be used to help with the walking trails.

Doug Reid, on behalf of the group, gave an update to the town on the Historic Battleford Lions Club’s activities.

He said the organization raised the funds for this donation previously but waited until now to make the presentation due to the prior pandemic situation.

Reid said the club has contributed a lot to the Battlefords since it started many years ago.

“The club has probably put over one million dollars into this community,” he said.

Some projects the organization has invested in include the ball diamonds in the Battleford Flats ($10,000), and the Lions arena ($50,000 to $80,000). They also contributed to the Alex Dillabough Centre ($50,000 to $80,000), the curling club ($20,000), the walking trails and amenities ($100,000), and a number of other initiatives.

Reid said the Lions have also helped with several health-related projects, and continue to do what they can to support the community.

He also took the opportunity to invite anyone who is interested to contact the club if they would like to become a new member.

Leslie enquired whether the popular Operun event would return in the future.

“It was a nice addition to the town,” he said.

Reid said the Lions will give an update on this event in the future. He said the annual fundraiser run will likely return, but with a new name.
