Town out-of-scope employees see salary increase

Jan 26, 2023 | 4:40 PM

Town of Battleford council approved a wage increase for town out-of-scope employees at its meeting this week.

The town authorized a 1.5 per cent increase for the town’s out-of-scope employees’ remuneration, based on the approved salary grid.

Chief Administrative Officer Ash Alam presented the proposal.

“It is already incorporated in the budget accordingly,” he said. “We talked about it at the last council meeting at the end of last year.”

Alam said in his report the 2023 total salary remuneration increase for all out-of-scope employees works out to about $8,670, which was included in the town’s approved 2023 budget. He noted the out-of-scope staff salary is lower than approved salary grid, with only one exception – that the utility manager remuneration is slightly above the salary grid.

The following 10 positions will receive the 1.5 per cent increase for 2023: the finance manager, the public works manager, the utilities manager, the parks and recreation manager, the public safety officer, the finance supervisor, the executive assistant, the finance officer, the museum manager, and the deputy fire chief.

Mayor Ames Leslie said the proposed increase is in line with what was discussed previously.

“This is based off of council’s request last year that out-of-scope employees receive the same increase as the negotiated union annual increase,” he said. “So, this is just a breakdown of all the employees out-of-scope, and what they have for vacation. As well, they will receive the 1.5 per cent salary increase for 2023.”
