The trial for a man facing a charge in the death of Cindy MacKay in 2020 is now scheduled for the fall.

Michael MacKay, 40, is facing a charge of first degree murder in the death of his wife Cindy MacKay of the Meota area.

The accused’s five-week jury trial will start Oct. 16, 2023, at the Court of King’s Bench in Battleford.

The Crown prosecutor in the case is Oryn Holm, while the defence counsel is Nicholas Stooshinoff.

The accused was arrested March 18, 2021 and later released after being granted bail in April of that year.

A preliminary inquiry in the case was held in North Battleford Provincial Court intermittently in March and April of 2022.

None of the allegations against MacKay have been proven in court.

RCMP previously reported Cindy MacKay, 38, was transported to hospital in medical distress Feb. 7, 2020. She later died in hospital on Feb. 12, 2020.
