Maidstone RCMP investigating sexting scam targeting young men, teenage boys

Maidstone RCMP is warning the public about a sexting scam.

From October to December 2022, investigators received several reports of young men and teenage boys being enticed to send naked photos of themselves.

Those pictures would then be sent to their contacts unless they paid an undisclosed amount of money.

RCMP say people who find themselves in this type of situation should never send over any money even if it sounds urgent and instead should call their local police detachment.

Those who were already impacted, whether they sent over money or not, are asked to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre through their website or by calling 1-888-495-8501.
