COVID Levels

P.A. & North Battleford seeing high levels of COVID in wastewater

Dec 19, 2022 | 2:36 PM

COVID levels in Prince Albert and North Battleford are once again considered high.

That’s according to researchers with the University of Saskatchewan who’re studying the virus through the communities’ wastewater.

In P.A., the levels jumped by 147 per cent from last week’s, putting the results at 137,000 gene copies within every 100 mL of wastewater.

The U of S considers this high since the amount is bigger than what the city has been averaging over the past 10 weeks, around 107,000 gene copies per 100 mL of wastewater.

North Battleford also saw a sizeable jump, however, the city’s levels aren’t as high as P.A.’s.

They rose by 177 per cent from last week, putting the viral load at roughly 85,000 gene copies per 100 mL of wastewater. Despite being much lower, North Battleford’s levels are still considered high because they’re bigger than the city’s 10-week average.

Saskatoon, the third city the U of S is studying, is doing much better than P.A. and North Battleford.

The viral load dropped by 34 per cent from last week, putting the results at around 50,000 gene copies within every 100 mL of wastewater. Saskatoon has been averaging around 79,000 over the past 10 weeks.
