RCMP Report: Assaults, axe-swinging man lead week’s numbers
Police were kept busy dealing with a number of assaults this past week in the Battlefords.
A woman was allegedly assaulted while walking on a road near the town of Battleford. According to Battlefords RCMP, police responded after receiving a 911 call of an assault shortly after 3:30 a.m., Dec. 1. The victim reported she was assaulted by a man known to her while they were walking on a road west of Battleford. The victim was eventually located and received medical treatment for facial injuries. Police found the accused at a home a short time later. A 31-year-old man is facing charges of assault and resisting arrest.
In a separate incident, police responded after receiving a 911 call of an assault at a home at Sweetgrass First Nation shortly before 9 a.m., Dec. 2. A male reported being assaulted by a suspect known to him. The victim allegedly sustained minor injuries. With help from Sweetgrass First Nation security personnel, police arrested the suspect and took the individual into custody. Serita Lonesinger, 22, appeared in court Dec. 5, charged with assault.
Then, in another report, on Dec. 3 at 12:30 p.m., RCMP observed an altercation between a male and female on 10 Avenue in North Battleford. Police say the male assaulted the female in the incident. Police arrested a man at the location and took him into custody. A 42-year-old man is facing charges of assault and resisting arrest.
