‘Pack the Patrol Unit’ fundraiser for Battlefords Humane Society this Friday

People can show their love for all the furry creatures at the Battlefords Humane Society by supporting the Pack the Patrol Unit fundraiser.

The event is being organized by the North Battleford Community Safety Officers (CSOs), with assistance from the Battlefords Citizens on Patrol Program.

The fundraiser will take place Friday, Dec. 9 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., outside the local Walmart store, the No Frills grocery store, PetValu and Canadian Tire in North Battleford. People can stop by one of the CSO cruisers parked outside any of these sites, and drop off items to donate.

The organizers’ goal is to fill four Community Safety Officer patrol vehicles, which will be parked at each location.

“We are going to collect donations. All proceeds will go to the Battlefords Humane Society,” North Battleford CSO Unit Commander Jerry Koliniak said. “[Last year,] the total weight of donations was about 1,500 pounds of food and toys for the Battlefords Humane Society, and over $500 in cash donations. Our goal is to beat that.”

Families can donate dog food, Purina or puppy chow, soft/wet dog food, dog toys, blankets, dog beds, dog treats or dog leashes and collars. To show their support for the felines, they can give cat food, kitten food, soft/wet cat food, cat toys, cat scratching posts, cat treats or non-clumping cat litter.

“People don’t always think of helping dogs and cats at this time of the year,” Koliniak said. “We believe it’s a good cause to support, the Battlefords Humane Society.”

He said there are many fundraisers happening in the community over the holidays, so the CSO Unit decided to step up and do what it can to be kind to the animals.

“We wanted to do something to help the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at the Humane Society, and give them a good Christmas,” Koliniak said. “If people can donate, that’s great. It’s just a way of giving back to the community.”

Some staff from the Humane Society will also take part in the fundraiser, in case anyone wishes to make a cash donation.

Battlefords Humane Society shelter coordinator Michelle Spark said all the support from the CSOs for this annual fundraiser is appreciated.

“They did it last year, and it was a huge success. We got so many donations; it was fantastic,” she said. “We’re hoping to get many more donations this year. So, if we can pack all four patrol cars, I would be super happy with that.”
