Winner announced for The Great Escape’s free trip-for-two to Jamaica

The big winner of The Great Escape contest was announced Thursday night.

Local resident Lori-Ann Tebb won a free trip for two to Jamaica.

Q98 hosted a live on-air listening party during the evening for the countdown draw to select a winner.

Then, at 8 p.m. Nic Fransoo, program director and Q98 morning show host, phoned the lucky winner to give her the good news.

When Tebb discovered she won the contest, she shouted out a big “Yay!”

“I am so excited. That’s crazy,” she said. “Thank you very much.”

Tebb said she is not sure yet who will be coming with her on the trip.

While she’s been to Jamaica before, a number of years ago, Tebb said she was “freaking out” when she heard her phone ring Thursday, to find out she will be going again – for free.

“That will be awesome,” she said.

Bennigan’s Bar in the Tropical Inn in North Battleford held a party Thursday night with complimentary edibles for many of the finalists and their guests who attended, as people waited and listened to the radio to find out who the winner would be. A number of prizes were also handed out during the evening as well.

Fransoo said the entire North-West area was able to take part in a giant live on-air listening party during the evening to be part of the fun. Grant Schutte (CJNB) and Tyler Janzen (93.3 The Rock) joined Fransoo for the event.

“This is year-two for The Great Escape On-The-Air on Q98 along with CJNB and 93.3 The Rock,” Fransoo said. “It’s always so exciting for me because I have traveled a little bit in my life, and I love it. There is nothing like getting away and finding a nice warm sun-shiny beach, a cold drink in your hand, music playing, no responsibilities, no dishes. It’s the best thing ever. So, to be able to give this trip away to our winner, it feels so good knowing they will be able to go and enjoy it, just the same way that I would.”

He said the station decided over the last couple of years it wanted to make The Great Escape contest event even bigger than it was already.

Anybody listening to Q98, CJNB/CJNS or 93.3 The Rock, had an opportunity to become a finalist in the contest. The finalists came from across the entire listening area and all the station’s various formats. There were a total of 130 people in the finalists’ draw who had a chance to win the trip this year.

“We wouldn’t be able to do it without all of our sponsors, our local businesses stepping up to say: ‘Hey, we want to be a part of this. It sounds like a lot of fun,'” Fransoo said. “And it sure was. Thank you again to all of our sponsors, and everybody who got involved again this year for The Great Escape.”
