A man facing a charge of second-degree murder, will be tried by a jury in Jan. 2024.

That was the outcome of Friday’s pre-trial conference at Court of King’s Bench in Prince Albert for Roy Lasas.

The 21-year-old was one of two people charged in the death of Troy Watson at Mistawasis First Nation on Nov. 17, 2020.

At the time of the incident, RCMP explained they had been called to a home to help EMS with an unconscious man. Watson was found outside where the paramedics pronounced him dead.

Roy Lasas’s trial has been scheduled to run from Jan. 8-19, 2024.

The second person, who was under the age of 18 when arrested, cannot be named because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is scheduled to have his matters spoken to next on Nov. 23rd at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Both of the accused are from the first nation, located about 70 kilometres southwest of Prince Albert.
