It was a full house at the Dekker Centre Thursday night, for the BGC Battlefords’ (Battlefords Boys and Girls Club’s) 22nd annual gala fundraiser.

Executive director Nicole Combres said after having to hold the event virtually the last two years, the organization couldn’t have been happier for the turnout in their return to a public gala.

“It’s our first in-person gala since pre-covid, so since 2019, and I can’t believe we’re all back here in person again,” she said with a smile. “We’ve got a packed house, we’ve got over 200 people here, and we’re just so grateful for the community showing up once again to support us and the kids we serve.”

The gala featured a full prime rib meal complete with potatoes, gravy, and roasted mixed vegetables, catered by The Blend, well as a 70’s-style theme, A Comeback to that Soundtrack, with many dressing up in the ‘hip’ styles of yesteryear.

The night also consisted of a number of goods and services donated for the evening to be auctioned off including an all-inclusive trip to an Edmonton Oilers game, a roundtrip flight for two from WestJet, a pair of diamond rings, and much more.

Combres said that from the caterers to the many volunteers and the host venue, the event would not have been the great success it was without the support of so many from the community.

“It was a great meal sponsored by Blend and we were at the Dekker Centre this year so it was a change of venue and we’re incredibly grateful to Kali [Weber] and the team here for helping us set this all up as it looked amazing,” she said. “Just to everyone who came out, we’re so grateful.”

The gala fundraiser is the biggest fundraising event of the year for the BGC Battlefords, with funds benefiting the club’s programs and services for youth and families in the Battlefords and area.
