BGC Battlefords annual gala fundraiser coming up

Nov 14, 2022 | 12:09 PM

People will have an opportunity to show their support for local youth at the BGC Battlefords (Battlefords Boys and Girls Club Inc.) 22nd annual gala fundraiser planned on Thursday.

Monday is the last day to purchase tickets, so executive director Nicole Combres is hoping for a good turnout. This will be the first time the event has been fully open to the public since before the pandemic.

“We are so excited after two years of having to have the gala online and at home that we are able to be back again in person,” she said. “It’s our largest fundraiser for the year. It really does allow the community an opportunity to come out and support the club.”

The gala fundraiser will benefit programs and services for youth and families in the Battlefords area.

“The funds raised during the [event] go towards the operations of the club,” Combres said. “In order to provide high-quality programs and services to nearly 500 kids in our community, we rely heavily on this fundraising event to make that happen.”

She said BGC Battlefords operates annually with limited guaranteed dollars each year, so as a result, that makes its fundraising events “vital to the sustainability of our organization.”

The items available in the silent and live auction, and the draws this year have all been donated by various community businesses and individuals.

“We really are incredibly grateful to everyone who has sponsored our event, and donated to our event,” Combres said. “Without them and their generosity, we wouldn’t be able to have our annual gala.”

Some of the highlights from the auctions this year include tickets to Edmonton Oilers games and some women’s jewellery. There is also a WestJet gift of a round-trip flight for two, a Culinary Experience with Chef Nora, as well as an electric bike up for grabs for the lucky winners.

Tickets to the gala are available by contacting BGC Battlefords online or by phone at 306-445-0002.

“We’re closing ticket sales this afternoon, so if there is anyone at the last minute who hasn’t gotten their tickets or table sales in they should give us a call right away,” Combres said.

The event will take place at the Dekker Centre, with cocktails at 5:30 p.m., dinner catered by the Blend Restaurant & Bar at 6:30 p.m., with a program, and live and silent auctions to follow.
