Calls involving guns highlight weekly report from Battlefords RCMP

Nov 9, 2022 | 11:13 AM

Three separate incidents involving firearms were among the 460 calls Battlefords RCMP responded to between Nov. 3 and Nov. 8.

Just before 3 p.m. on Nov. 3, police received a report of a man with a gun on 110th St. in North Battleford. Police patrols of the area led them to locate a suspect close to a residence on the 900 block of 105 St. As the investigation continued, police executed a search warrant at a residence on 105 St. There they found a firearm, methamphetamine, and stolen property. Codey Wright, 33, faces several charges in connection to this incident.

On Nov. 4, police received a report of a pickup truck stolen from Douglas St. in North Battleford.

RCMP spotted the truck a short time later, but it attempted to flee from police before being abandoned. The suspect took off on foot and police watched him run toward another waiting truck and throw a firearm into the vehicle’s box. That vehicle took off before the suspect could get inside. Junior Keller, 19, now faces several charges including flight from police, careless use of a firearm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Battlefords RCMP Sgt. Neil Tremblay says this case is still under investigation, and they have not been able to positively identify the driver of the vehicle that sped away with the firearm in the box.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Nov. 5, Battlefords RCMP received a report of a break-in in progress on St. Laurent Dr. in North Battleford. Responding officers located several suspects when they got to the residence, and they recovered a rifle. Three people are facing charges in connection with this incident.

Along with the gun calls, police started 25 assault investigations, responded to 81 disturbance calls, initiated 16 mental health investigations, and handled eight vehicle thefts, and eight break-and-enters.
