The Craig Family to be inducted into Business Hall of Fame

A long-standing North Battleford business will be honoured with a special award at the upcoming Battlefords Business Excellence (BBEX) Awards Gala.

The Battlefords and District Chamber of Commerce and its Battlefords Business Excellence (BBEX) Awards Committee, along with presenting sponsor Gold Eagle Casino, announced The Craig Family has been named as the latest inductee into the Battlefords Business Hall of Fame.

The chamber said the Craig Family has been an integral part of the Battlefords’ business community for close to 100 years.

“From Craig Bros., to Craig and Co., to now a new generation of Craig family businesses— Craig’s Boutique, and Drift Wellness and Beauty, members of the family have been a mainstay in the business scene,” the chamber’s chief operating officer, Linda Machniak, said.

The Craig Family will be honoured during a special presentation at the 28th annual BBEX awards ceremony on Nov. 9.

“For nearly 100 years, they have operated businesses in the family, whether it was the grandparents, the parents, the children, and now the grandchildren are actually operating businesses in the community and carrying on that Craig family legacy,” Machniak said. “It’s important for us to honour them.”

The first inductee into the Battlefords Business Hall of Fame was Milbanke’s Flowers and Home Decor, which was acknowledged for its more than 100 years of service in the community during the BBEX Awards gala in 2018.

The Business Hall of Fame awards took a pause during the pandemic for the past few years, so the chamber is looking forward to continuing them again in the future.

“There are many families that have contributed a lot to the success and growth of the community, and over long periods of time,” Machniak said. “So I’m hoping that we have the opportunity to celebrate them.”

Battlefords Business Excellence (BBEX) Awards Committee chairperson Dana Rissling said in a release she is thrilled to recognize the Craig family as the 2022 inductee for their long-serving commitment to the community.

“I, personally, would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Craig family on this very deserving honour, and also to thank them for being part of and continuing to be part of our business community,” she said.
