Two arrested in connection to death of Wendy Bird

RCMP have arrested two people in connection to the death of 24-year-old Wendy Bird from Prince Albert. Bird’s body was found on the side of highway 16, near Maymont on Oct. 16.

25-year-old Dustin Cookman-Watts from North Battleford is charged with second-degree murder. 18-year-old Melissa Kaponyas from Biggar is charged with accessory after the fact. Both were arrested in the North Battleford area on Oct. 20 and they appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Friday.

The RCMP major crime unit continues to investigate with assistance from the Saskatoon and North Battlefords RCMP forensic identification services unit.

Police are still looking for information on the whereabouts of Wend Bird from Oct. 14 – 16. They also want to know if anybody saw anything suspicious along Highway 16 in the hours before Bird’s body was discovered.
