“CONCERNING” ROBBERIES

Battlefords RCMP investigating two serious robberies and shots fired into a home

Battlefords RCMP are investigating two different robberies that occurred over the last week as well as shots fired at a home in North Battleford.

On Wednesday, RCMP released a video of a knifepoint robbery that took place in the town of Battleford on Oct. 7. The woman was able to get away in that incident, but she suffered minor injuries during the altercation.

The second robbery took place on Oct. 9 around 11 p.m. Two people were leaving a business on Railway Avenue in North Battleford when they were approached in the parking lot by a man and a woman. The man lifted the end of his shirt to show the victims what appeared to be a gun. The victims handed over the keys to their car and the suspects stole it. The vehicle was recovered a couple of days later in Saskatoon.

RCMP Sgt. Neil Tremblay says in this case, the two victims made the right call to hand over the keys.

“Something like that, you don’t want to engage in an altercation with someone you don’t know. He’s showing you a weapon, indicating he is going to use it. So, I think they made the right decision and turned over the keys.”

Battlefords police are also investigating shots fired into a home in North Battleford. On two separate occasions on Oct. 8 and Oct. 11, a home in the 2400 block of 100 Street was shot at.

Sgt. Tremblay says a situation where somebody is discharging a gun toward a house is alarming. Not just for the home hit, but also for the surrounding houses.

“We were able to confirm that there were several rounds that hit the home on the two occasions. So, a very, very dangerous situation.”

RCMP urge anybody with information about the robberies, or the shots into the home to contact them. Tips can also be left anonymously with Saskatchewan Crimestoppers.

Overall, Sgt. Tremblay describes the last week as busy for police with over 30 assault investigations. Other calls included 84 calls about a disturbance, 11 break-and-enter investigations, and six vehicle thefts.
