The office of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan announced on Friday that Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty will be visiting five schools in Northern Saskatchewan next week, including Buffalo Narrows, La Loche, Creighton, Cumberland House, and La Ronge.

The reason for the visit is to present the Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence, which will be the first time since 2019 that he has been able to make this tour as the medal presentations were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

The Lieutenant Governor will visit the schools in the following order:

Lieutenant Governor’s Award recipient: Dayton Janvier

Lieutenant Governor’s Award recipient: Ava Haynes

Tuesday, October 4 at 11:15 a.m. – Creighton Community School, Creighton

Lieutenant Governor’s Award recipients: Lexus Altman, Madison McDermott, Grace Dubina

Wednesday, October 5 at 9:45 a.m. – Churchill Community High School, La Ronge

Lieutenant Governor’s Award recipients: Ava Johnson, Sydnee Mckay, Matayah Small, Natalie LaFaver

The Northern Student Achievement Awards were first established in 1989 by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education. The Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence recognizes one student at each grade level from grades 7 to 12 and the criteria for the award include academic standing, school attendance, and involvement in cultural activities.
