The Battlefords North Stars picked up a 2-0 win over Melfort Wednesday, for their sixth straight to open the season.

Goaltender, Josh Kotai stopped all 26 shots he faced for his second straight shutout, while Wilson Steele and Steven Kesslering each chipped in with a goal apiece in the victory.

Following a scoreless first period, and start to the second, the Stars took a 1-0 lead late in the middle frame on a Wilson Steele seeing-eye shot from the blue line.

The defending SJHL Defenceman of the Week snapped a quick wrister through traffic for the scoring play, for his second of the season – and second in his last two days – which would also prove to be the game-winner.

The third period also saw no scoring until late, when Steven Kesslering added the insurance marker to salt the game away, inside the final minute of the third to make it a 2-0 North Stars final.

The Stars will return to play Friday in search of their seventh straight win, as the team travels to Melfort to again meet the Mustangs.

Due to the Rider game Friday, the NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Broadcast will be available on 93.3 The Rock. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7 p.m., with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
