Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine available at walk-in clinic in North Battleford

A COVID-19 vaccine walk-in clinic is being held at the Frontier Centre in North Battleford today. This is the first day the Moderna bivalent booster dose will be available in Saskatchewan.

Last week, the province announced the bivalent vaccine will be available for all Saskatchewan residents over the age of 70. All Saskatchewan residents 50 years and older in First Nation and Métis communities, and those in the Northern Service Administration District (NSAD) are also eligible.

In a media release last week, the province recommended eligible populations receive the Moderna bivalent booster dose at least four months following their last COVID-19 vaccination. The Moderna bivalent booster can only be used as a booster and not as the first or second dose in a primary vaccination series. It is recommended that those eligible receive the Moderna bivalent booster dose at least four months following their last COVID-19 vaccination.

The walk-in clinic is taking place today (Monday) from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Frontier Centre in North Battleford. Pfizer, and Johnson and Johnson vaccines are also available. Individuals interested in getting the vaccine can also book an appointment to do so.

The bivalent vaccine targets the original COVID-19 virus from 2019, and the newer Omicron BA.1 variant. It is only approved for use as a booster dose. The provincial government says it will roll out bivalent availability to other age groups as supply becomes available, likely in October.
