Battlefords RCMP responds to unusual calls

Mounties in the Battlefords were kept busy over the past week, fielding hundreds of calls and responding to a few eyebrow-raising incidents.

According to the RCMP, there were 500 calls for service between Sept. 7 and Tuesday, including 22 assaults, two missing persons reports, 11 break-and-enter investigations, eight vehicle thefts, and seven cases of impaired driving.

The weekly report from Battlefords RCMP included several unusual cases, which we’ve collected for you here.

“Things that are not a good idea. If you are impaired by alcohol, do not drive to the detachment to speak to a police officer,” the RCMP said in the report.

Believe it or not, a 24-year-old driver was arrested Friday after driving himself to the Battleford RCMP detachment to speak to a police officer.

He’ll have lots of chances to talk to police now, because he was arrested and charged after he arrived.

One can only hope it was a sobering experience.

Mirror, mirror

On Saturday afternoon, the RCMP arrested a 33-year-old woman after she allegedly attempted to assault a man using an unusual weapon — a “large mirror.” She was charged with assault with a weapon and breaching probation.

No injuries were reported, but the perpetrator can likely expect some bad luck in her future as she heads to court to answer the charges.

Watch your head

Police were called on Friday after a man said he was headbutted by an unknown person, who then attempted to steal some patio furniture nearby. The 22-year-old suspect tried to run from police, but was quickly arrested.

“The accused was showing signs of significant impairment by drugs,” the RCMP noted.

The man who was headbutted wasn’t badly hurt.
