North Stars return home for final game of pre-season

The Battlefords North Stars will play their sixth and final game of pre-season action Sunday at the Access Communications Centre, as they welcome the Lloyd Bobcats to town.

The Stars enter their final game of the exhibition schedule with a 4-0-1 record through their first five games, including most recently, a 4-0 win over the Bobcats in Lloyd Friday.

Head coach, Brayden Klimosko said there was lots to like about the team in their last game, that he hopes to see them build on tonight and going forward.

“I thought last game was our best one, to be honest,” Klimosko said. “We stuck up for each other and it was more like black and silver hockey of the past. We were finishing more hits, we were making more plays out of our zone, and protecting the puck a lot more, so a lot of good things and hopefully we bring that into tonight.”

Second-year North Star, Ethan Scriven – who scored the team’s opener just a couple of games ago against Kindersley – said a fast start is important again Sunday against a motivated Bobcats team.

“It’s a big game, we gave them a good run last time and I think they’re going to come out flying so we just have to come out harder and play our game,” Scriven said. “We always try to play a fast and physical game, so for us, we just need to play a simple game.”

Lining up alongside Scriven Sunday night, is fellow second-year, Bradley Blake, who added it’s about doing the right things to get ready and be feeling good heading into the regular season.

“This is the last pre-season game we’re about to head into before the home-and-away against Kindersley, and you want to go in with as much confidence as you can,” Blake said. “Obviously, a good start to the season is huge and you want to show up good right from those first few games.”

Sunday’s game at the A-C-C will begin at 6 p.m., and will be the last game before the radio broadcasts begin.

The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcasts on 1050 CJNB will begin with the start of the regular season, next weekend in Kindersley.
