NB Downtown BID Fall Festival brings community together

Sep 11, 2022 | 2:00 PM

There was lots to see Saturday when the North Battleford Downtown BID (Business Improvement District) Fall Festival livened up the streets of the city.

People had a chance to take in the petting zoo, visit one of the vendors’ tables, or shop at the sidewalk sale during the day. They could also check out various information booths, grab a bite at one of the food trucks, or sit down and listen to some live music.

Derek Schmidt, chair of the BID board board of directors and also chair of the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce, was taking in the festivities during the day as well.

“I think it’s a great turnout. We had a beautiful day. There were lots of vendors we haven’t seen before and there were lots of people out, which is good because it’s a busy weekend around the Battlefords,” he said.

Schmidt said the festival organizers couldn’t be happier.

The event was also a good way for the local merchants to get out and show people what they offer.

“Businesses have been taking advantage of all the people downtown which is great,” Schmidt said. “We can do nothing but good when we promote businesses downtown.”

Coming up

The Battlefords Early Years Family Resource Centre was among the various organizations taking part in the Fall Festival.

The organization is planning an event called “Meet-A-Machine” coming up at the parking lot of the InnovationPlex recreation and cultural centre (formerly known as North Battleford’s CUplex) from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 17.

They are inviting families with young children to attend and see some of the many machines of all sizes that will be on display. Kids will have a fun chance to check out what some machines, like a tractor, a firetruck, a school bus, or even a motorcycle, look like close-up, and learn a little about how they work and what they are used for at the same time.
