Man charged with killing mother back in court

Aug 31, 2022 | 1:20 PM

A 45-year-old North Battleford man facing a charge of second-degree murder in the death of his mother returned to court Wednesday.

Walter Geering, who is in custody, appeared via teleconference.

Defence lawyer, Bill Archer, said Geering is now facing a separate charge alleging that he had contact with his father, Walter Geering Sr., contrary to a no-contact order the court imposed on his first appearance.

Judge Michelle Baldwin reminded the accused he must continue to comply with the no-contact order in place. He is also required to have no contact with his sister.

Archer said he will need to have some discussions with the Crown Prosecutor on the file, Brenda Korchinski, when she is back, and asked for the case to be adjourned in the meantime.

Geering is scheduled to return to North Battleford provincial court on Friday, Sept. 23.

According to the RCMP, police responded after receiving a report on June 22 of an injured individual at a home on 93rd Street in North Battleford. Officers and paramedics found a woman who was declared deceased.

She has since been identified as 72-year-old Beatrice Geering from North Battleford. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit confirmed the victim is the mother of the accused.
