$14 million project value

NB building permits see big increase

The City of North Battleford is reporting strong numbers for its latest building permit report.

City assistant director of corporate services, Ryan Mackrell, said during council’s latest meeting a major project impacting the figures was for one permit under the category “Institutional Alteration” for the John Paul II Collegiate High School renovation project, valued at $14.2 million.

“That permit has come on, and that work has started,” Mackrell said.

Aside from this project, another notable development shown in the latest building permit report is categorized as a “New Commercial Building,” which is for an addition at Splish Splash car wash, valued at $95,000.

The city’s building permit report for the month of July 2022 shows four permits were taken out for a total value of $14,301,500. That’s a large increase from July 2021, which shows 10 permits issued for a value of $8,356,400.

For the year-to-date ending July 2022, the city had 58 permits taken out for a total value of $34,771,800, compared to 61 permits issued for a total value of $17,877,000 for the same period last year.

Looking at the year-to-date, Mackrell said the permit totals were “very similar to where they were last year,” with the exception of some major projects that moved ahead.

“The big difference being that the John Paul Collegiate [renovations] permit came through and the Co-op development on the new commercial side was a good one we added to this year,” he said.

Mayor David Gillan was pleased with the John Paul II Collegiate renovation project especially in the latest figures that made a positive impact on the report.

“It’s really nice to see that large permit; it really helps the numbers,” he said.
