Aug 22, 2022 | 12:47 PM

One of the people facing charges in the North Battleford apartment building fire in January will be heading to trial next year.

Naomi Jean Yellowtail, 42, faces charges of arson with disregard for human life.

Yellowtail’s appearance was waived at North Battleford provincial court on Monday.

Defence attorney Nicole Bree who appeared via teleconference said Yellowtail entered a not guilty plea to the charge.

Judge Ian Mokuruk confirmed the trial would be set for Feb. 27, 2023 to March 2, 2023 in Courtroom #2 starting at 9:30 a.m.

The co-accused in the case, 22-two-year-old Keeanu Crookedneck faces the same arson-related charges.

Crookedneck is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 1.

According to the RCMP’s report, the fire resulted in significant damage to the apartment building at 1441 102nd St. and required multiple fire crews to extinguish the blaze. The initial investigation deemed the fire suspicious in nature.
