RCMP Report: Drunk driving arrest, break-in investigations

Aug 20, 2022 | 5:00 AM

Battlefords RCMP arrested a 20-year-old woman on numerous charges, following a collision on Aug. 11 in North Battleford.

Two vehicles collided on 15th Avenue that evening, which resulted in the second driver being transported to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The individual was released hours later.

The accused, first driver fled the scene of the accident, but was located a short time later and also taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Her charges include impaired driving causing bodily harm, refusing to provide a breath/blood sample, driving while prohibited and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Her future court date has not been released.

Break-ins

There were several break and enter investigations in the area, a few of which resulted in either theft or property damage. These include:

  • A business on Highway 16 East where suspects cut through a fence early in the morning on Aug. 11 and stole keys for some equipment;
  • A business on the 1600 block of 100th Street early Monday morning where damage was found to a door and a wall;
  • A garage on 19th Street in Battleford on Aug. 10 where two Quads, two helmets and a chain saw were among items reported stolen;
  • A residence on the 1300 block of 106th Street the afternoon of Aug. 13 where the door appears to have been kicked in, but nothing was reported taken.

The detachment do not believe at this time that any of the incidents are related.

There were also two vehicle thefts that are still under investigation, including a black 2012 Chevrolet Equinox (Sask. License 895-MKF) stolen from Ross Crescent early Monday morning and a blue 1993 Ford Ranger (Alta. License BFZ-6482) stolen from Alfred Street in Cochin early Monday morning.

Sgt. Neil Tremblay said there were some cases of suspected hot wiring, but added that drivers leaving keys in their vehicle remains an issue, despite vehicle theft numbers being down throughout the summer.

“Sometimes it’s a genuine error, but for people who make a habit of leaving their car or truck running unattended, that’s not recommended,” he said.

Other calls include 25 mental health investigations, 10 traffic collisions, 25 various traffic charges, 82 disturbance calls, 26 other reported thefts and 22 mischief investigations.

Anyone with information on any incident from this report or otherwise can call the Battlefords RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
